The Look: Celine Dion in Armani Prive

Celine Dion looked absolutely flawless on the red carpet of last night's Oscars.

The Canadian songstress, who gave birth to twins in October, donned a stunning white long-sleeved Armani Prive gown, which fit her to perfection.

She really brought class and elegance with this look, finished with flowing locks and Van Cleef & Arpels jewels.

This is the first Celine Dion post ever featured on outisthrough.com, and boy does she deserve the recognition for this look!

The Look: Natalie Portman in Rodarte

I haven't been super in love with Natalie Portman's maternity wear this awards season, but at last night's Oscars I think she looked the best to date.

The best actress Oscar winner showed the potential I knew she had in a custom deep purple Rodarte gown, featuring beaded embellishments on its off-the-shoulder neckline.

She finished off the look with Jimmy Choo ‘Macy’ satin sandals, purple fringe earrings and sideswept hair.

Portman was positively glowing, and this rich colour helped ensure all eyes were on her for her big night with Oscar.

2011 Oscars: The Men

It wasn't just the women who turned heads on last night's Oscars red carpet.

More than a few fine men showed up, dressed to perfection in fine suits and tuxedos.

Coincidentally, more than a few of them were cast members of the Social Network. Some damn fine men in that flick, I tell ya!

Click inside for a series of dashing me in dashing suits, that would likely look even better on the floor.

The Look: Sandra Bullock in Vera Wang

Sandra Bullock looked red hot as she walked the red carpet at last night's Oscars.

Last year's Best Actress winner donned a sexy strapless Vera Wang gown, with red lips to match.

She swept her hair up and accessorized with diamond earrings and a red clutch.

I love that Sandra went for a bright bold colour, in a dress that fit her well and reminded the world she's not just a funny woman, she's also super fine.

The Look: Cate Blanchett in Givenchy

Cate Blanchett made a beautiful fashion statement at last night's Oscars, with the help of a fabulous Givenchy gown.

The British actress donned a Spring 2011 Couture gown, featuring embroidered pearl details in lilac and contrasting yellow.

She finished the look with Van Cleef & Arpels jewels.

Not any actress could pull off this dress, but Blanchett did so with poise and elegance. She's so statuesque, it kills me.

Love!

#OSCARSREALTIME with James Franco

In case you missed the Oscars last night, James Franco left much to be desired as cohost.

While Anne Hathaway's enthusiasm felt grating at first, I felt bad for her by the end of the broadcast, as it was clear she was at least committed to her duties while Franco could hardly feign interest in delivering his lines.

(Tweets speculating he was high started early in the evening).

For me, highlights from Franco included a shot of him in revealing ballet tights during the pretaped opening, and a mid-show entrance on stage in drag.

While he showed little enthusiasm on stage, Franco did tweet pictures and videos from backstage throughout the night, with the hashtag #OSCARSREALTIME.

So hey, maybe he was just too preoccupied to really deliver on his hosting obligation!

Click inside for a few of my favourite twitpics from throughout the night, and click on over to James Franco's Twitter for his full social media offerings.

The Look: Hailee Steinfeld in Marchesa

Hailee Steinfeld finished off awards season in top form at last night's Oscars, thanks to a stunning Marchesa gown and impeccable styling.

The 14-year-old True Grit nominee looked perfectly pretty in her pale pink crystal embroidered tulle tea length dress, which she paired with champagne coloured peep-toe shoes and a silver clutch.

She finished off the look with a simple up-do, and a hot accessory for any 14-year-old: a headband.

Once again, I love how Ms. Steinfeld looks so beautiful in her gown, while staying both age and event-appropriate.

She continues to be one of my faves!

The Look: Michelle Williams in Chanel

After receiving criticism for her dowdy Golden Globes attire, Michelle Williams rocked the red carpet at last night's Oscars looking gorgeous and glam!

The Blue Valentine nominee arrived in a sleek and shimmering white beaded Chanel gown, which provided an elongated silhouette to the petite star.

Williams finished off the look with soft and subtle makeup, and simple side-part, which made for a glowing look.

(She also showed up hand-in-hand with her former Dawson's Creek costar Busy Phillips, which just made my evening!)

2011 Oscar winners

It was business as usual to cap off the award season, as The King's Speech was named best picture, while its star Colin Firth was named best actor, and Natalie Portman won best actress for Black Swan at last night's Academy Awards.

Supporting acting honours went to the Fighter's Christian Bale and Melissa Leo.

Meanwhile, the best movie I've ever seen, Toy Story 3 won a well-deserved best animated feature trophy. Randy Newman won Best Original Song for We Belong Together, featured in the Disney-Pixar film.

Inside Job took best documentary feature, while Denmark's In A Better World took best foreign language film.

Rounding out the major categories, Tom Hooper took best director for the King's Speech, while David Seidler won best original screenplay for the same film. Aaron Sorkin took best adapted screenplay for the Social Network, which also won best score.

Black Swan has Independent Spirit

Black Swan won a field best four Independent Spirit Awards last night, including best feature film and best director for Darren Aronofsky, a nice boost going into tonight's Oscars.

Its star Natalie Portman took best female performance, while the film also won best cinematography.

There was enough love to go around, however, as fellow Oscar contenders were also honoured. The Kids Are All Right won best screenplay, The King's Speech took best foreign film, and Exit Through The Gift Shop was named best documentary.

Oscar cohost James Franco, meanwhile, took best male performance for his work in 127 Hours.

John Hawkes and Dale Hickey rounded out the acting categories, winning best supporting male and best supporting female, respectively, for Winter's Bone.

Click inside for a full list of winners from the 2011 Independent Spirit Awards.

Last Airbender, SATC2 claim Razzies

M. Knight Shyamalan's The Last Airbender claimed Worst Movie at last night's Razzies, in advance of tonight's Oscars. It also took worst screenplay, worst director and worst eye-gouging misuse of 3-D

I'd comment, but like the rest of the world I haven't actually seen the movie.

Moviegoers still angry they paid 13 bucks to see Sex & the City 2, however, are probably pleased as punch that the movie's four female stars collectively won worst actress and worst chemistry, while the movie took worst prequel, remake, rip-off or sequel. (If there was an award for worst movie poster, it surely would have won that too).

Ashton Kutcher took home worst actor for Valentine's Day and The Killers, Jessica Alba took worst supporting actress for The Killer Inside Me, Little Fockers, Machete and Valentine's Day, and Jackson Rathbone took worst supporting actor for Twilight and The Last Airbender.

None of the stars had the sense of humour to show up and accept their awards at the ceremony.

Just 'cause

Here's a photo of George Clooney and Ryan Gosling laughing, being sexy, enjoying each other's company on the Cincinatti set of their new movieThe Ides of March.

Clooney's directing the film, which sees an idealistic staffer (Gosling) work for a newbie presidential candidate (Clooney), who gets a crash course in dirty politics on the campaign trail.

It makes me happy to see so much handsomeness together, mingling, creating something surely beautiful.

More photos at the source.

Happy weekend, friends!

Chelsea Handler and Laura Prepon: Sitcom sisters

Laura Prepon will play a character based on Chelsea Handler, while Chelsea Handler will play Laura Prepon's character's sister in an NBC comedy pilot executive produced by Chelsea Handler.

Did you get all that?

Prepon, best known from That 70s Show, was cast last week in the pilot, based on Handler's best-selling book 'Are You There, Vodka? It's Me, Chelsea.'

She'll play Chelsea Hanson, a single cocktail waitress who is highly opinionated and open about her love of sex and alcohol.

Now comes word that Handler herself will appear in the show, playing Chelsea Hanson's older sister.

"Chelsea and I are similar, so it's perfect we play sisters," Prepon told E!Online of the casting. "It's funny, because her vodka is my favorite vodka too. We both drink the same thing!"

Oh to be a fly on the wall of the pilot table read.

Kelly Osbourne: Material Girl

Take a look at these promo shots of Kelly Osbourne, for Madonna and Lola's fashion line Material Girl.

Osbourne takes over the campaign this year from former Gossip Girl star Taylor Momsen. Because, I'm guessing, they thought using a model who washes her hair would be better for business.

Photographed by fashion photographer Brooke Nipar, the campaign brings us to Madonna’s roots in New York City’s East Village as well as in a studio set inspired by the East Village of the 80s.

I think Kelly looks great! A definite step up from T. Mom.

And the dress on the right is pretty cute, right?

In Canada, you can get Material Girl clothing exclusively at the Bay.

Two more promo shots inside.

James Franco's cat nap

I do not love cats.

I do, however, love this photo of James Franco.

The actor/author/student/everything else joined Twitter and Facebook last week, and has been mighty generous posting photos and other glimpses into his life.

He captioned the above photo "cat nap."

For the less observant in the bunch, the man is reading, listening to music and napping with his feline friends. A renaissance man, he is!

Obviously Franco is worth a follow.

The 32-year-old actor is also posting behind-the-scenes photos and clips, as he prepares to host Sunday night's Oscars, where he's also nominated for Best Actor for 127 Hours.

Adele: Someone Like You on Ellen

I am completely, utterly and totally in love with Adele's new album 21.

I feel bad that I want to find the man who broke the British singer's heart, and thank him for inspiring her to create such beautiful music about it afterward. But I do!

The 22-year-old legend in the making appeared on Ellen yesterday, where she performed the stunningly gorgeous Someone Like You.

Watch it. Listen to it. Bask in its perfection.

Reynolds vs. Gosling vs. McAdams for fan-voted acting prize

It's a battle of the Ryans, and one of their former flames, for a fan-voted award to be presented at the Genie Awards on March 10.

HollywoodLife.com is inviting users to log on and vote for their favourite Canadian-born acting talent in 2010.

Their five finalists include People's Sexiest Man Alive Ryan Reynolds, and legitimately great actor Ryan Gosling, nominated for a Golden Globe this year for Blue Valentine.

Also in the mix is Gosling's former lover and costar Rachel McAdams, who this year appeared in Morning Glory.

Finishing off the list are young ones Jay Baruchel and Vampire Diaries' Nina Dobrev, whose inclusion emphasizes this poll was organized by an online gossip site.

Forget about Canadian actors in critically-acclaimed films, like Ellen Page in Inception, or Scott Speedman and Rachel Lefevre in Barney's Version. We really need to be honouring the star of the CW's Vampire Diaries at the Genie Awards.

Obviously Gosling and McAdams are the most worthy contenders for this prize. If there was a way to make them both win, reunite and rekindle their romance as a result, I'd be pushing that to happen.

Voting closes tomorrow, so if you care, click on over here to make your pick.

Canadian entertainment roundup!

  • Elton John will appear as a guest on Tuesday's episode of the Marilyn Denis Show on CTV. I have some major issues with Marilyn's set, but this is a pretty big guest booking, right? Billy Elliott, featuring music by Elton, is currently showing in Toronto.

  • City and Colour and Hannah Georgas will play a free outdoor show, dubbed the Juno Block Party March 24 at Toronto's Metro Square. Part of a week of events leading up to the Juno Awards broadcast, Georgas is nominated for New Artist and Songwriter of the Year.

  • Melissa Etheridge, Serena Ryder and Johnny Reid have been announced as performers for the Genie Awards, taking place March 10 in Ottawa. Honouring the best in Canadian film, rock band Karkwa and the Royal Winnipeg Ballet will perform a tribute to Barney's Version, the year's most nominated movie.

  • But back to Melissa Etheridge for a minute -- she has no obvious connection to Canada or the film industry, right? She's just there for ratings?

Dan Levy: Flare columnist

After announcing his departure from MTV Canada last month, Dan Levy has revealed one new role he's taking on: columnist for Canadian fashion magazine Flare.

"Excited to announce that I am officially a columnist for Flare Magazine!! First column out in the May issue!" he tweeted Tuesday.

What could Levy be writing about, you ask?

Well as my dear friend Linda suggested at dinner last night, "Wearing big black glasses. Then wearing big white glasses for a brief period."

I've also seen him wear tshirts, shirts, plaid, a bow tie, stripes and jeans. So there's that.

According to Flare editor Lisa Tant, via Twitter, "Dan Levy will be writing about style, pop culture and life in his new @FLAREfashion column. He has a great voice."

So yeah, he'll mostly be writing about glasses.

Oh lord, I can't help but smile when I read how joy-filled Alanis is with her new family.

Can't wait to see how this new stage in her life influences her music, acting and art.

Though right now it seems she's perfectly content making her role as mommy her main priority. And who can blame her?

On the cover: Amanda Seyfried for Interview

Amanda Seyfried looks beautiful in white on the March 2011 cover of Interview Magazine.

The 23-year-old actress next appears in the film Red Riding Hood.

"We applied modern-day relationship dynamics to the story," she says of the new retelling of the fairy tale. "It’s a thriller, it’s a whodunit, and it could have taken place during any period in history. But our version is set in medieval times, which were really romantic and gothic, so it’s a bit darker."

And what's Mandy's favourite fairy tale, you ask?

The Stinky Cheese Man!

"I got into those books because I didn’t like fairy tales when I was younger," she says. "I found a lot of fairy tales scary. They really didn’t sit well with me."

Kelly Clarkson and Jason Aldean: Duet on Ellen

Kelly Clarkson appeared on Ellen yesterday with country singer Jason Aldean to perform their chart-topping duet Don't You Want To Stay.

Jason sounded just okay, but Kelly hit it out of the park as per usual, so if you want to get to the good part skip ahead to 1:15 in the video.

"I just performed with Jason Aldean on Ellen and had so much fun at the show!" Kelly tweeted after recording the performance. " I love Ellen, she is one of a kind and just so down to earth and her staff is awesome as well!"

Kelly and Jason also shot a quick video backstage at Ellen. Click inside for that fun!

Six thoughts about Life As We Know It

1. Yes, this is a rom com that isn't reinventing the wheel. Thankfully it doesn't take too long to set itself up: Boy and girl can't stand each other, but love their mutual friends who get married and have an adorable child named Sophie. When mutual friends die tragically, Sophie is left to boy and girl, who may just discover in the process of raising her that they have more chemistry than initially thought.

2. We're all used to Katherine Heigl playing an annoyed woman, and her character in this film is no different. As uptight caterer Holly she delivers her signature eye rolls and holier-than-thou attitude she perfected through Grey's Anatomy, Knocked Up and 21 Dresses. She's still hot.

3. Josh Duhamel plays a character who goes by his last name of Messer, a real subtle nod to the type of person he is. Yup, you guessed it, Messer is carefree, irresponsible, and his hair is consistently messy. He's still hot.

4. I know he's not a huge movie star or anything, but I don't like that Josh Lucas is supporting two TV stars in this movie, as Sophie's doctor and Holly's love interest/distraction. He's got enough charisma to have Duhamel's role.

5. Lessons I learned about parenting by watching Heigl and Duhamel's characters: Throw a baby up in the air, and she may just puke on you. Changing a diaper may lead to poo on your face. Never push a baby over to stall them from taking their first steps. And babies like the Wiggles, while parents do not.

6. Life As We Know It is inoffensive, but familiar, reminding me of many a classic sitcom episode. I was specifically transported to this scene from Full House and this scene from Friends.

Watch it if: you're turned on by Katherine Heigl's annoyed tendencies, or Josh Duhamel's boyish charm.

On the cover: Rachel Bilson for California Style

Rachel Bilson brings her gorgeous self to the cover of California Style Magazine.

The 29-year-old actress, who recently signed on to a CW pilot, says she looks forward to working with O.C. creator Josh Schwartz on the project.

Josh knows me so well," she tells the mag. "I mean, he’s married to my best friend. We’re all very close. He knows how I deliver a line. He knows that I can be, you know, funny. It’s much harder to be funny than it is to act in a drama. But I’m up for it.”

She also tells the mag things are looking up with her former fiance Hayden Christensen.

“Without saying anything too specific, I can tell you that things are really positive right now. We’ll just have to see how it goes.”

Aight, keep me posted, Rache.

Adele: Rolling In The Deep on Letterman

Last night Adele appeared on the Late Show with David Letterman to perform Rolling In The Deep from her new album 21.

Her performance was so flawless and effortless and beautiful, I immediately headed to iTunes and bought 21.

It's so refreshing to watch an honest performance based on nothing but talent and emotion.

That voice! You can't fake this! Gorgeous gorgeous gorgeous.

Bonus: Click inside for Adele's breathtaking performance of Someone Like You at last week's Brit Awards.

90s revisited: Prozzak

The other night Jackie was over to watch Thursday comedies.

Once 30 Rock was over, we turned to YouTube to drown out Outsourced, and began a delightful stream of late 90s/early 00s Canadian faves, including the Moffatts, McMaster and James, Wave and Prozzak.

It took a few tries to find Prozzak, because we forgot the musical act spelled its name with two Z's and a K. But once we figured that out, oh how the memories rushed back!

I was shocked as we recalled that the cartoon duo of Simon and Milo had not one, not two, but three hits from their first album Hot Show, released in 1998. That includes Sucks To Be You, Strange Disease and, arguably the most ridiculous, Omobolisare.

I was even more shocked to discover through Wikipedia that the band consisted of two former members of Philosopher Kings. Seems Jay Levine and James Bryan McCollum didn't get along as members of P. Kings, but were both totes into the idea of creating bizarre dance music fronted by a couple of cartoons.

Hey -- why not.

Their first two (of four!) albums were nominated for Juno Awards. They even had another (moderate?) hit in 2000 with www.nevergetoveryou. I have no recollection of this song, because I had apparently moved full on into emo by that time, but my roommate could sing the whole thing on Thursday night.

Sadly, Wiki tells me both members of Prozzak are working on other projects -- one of them serving as Nelly Furtado's guitarist.

But did that stop us from having a hullarious couch dance party to Prozzak on Thursday night?

Absolutely not.

Two more (obviously must-see) vids inside.

Oh hey there, Zac Efron

There's no doubt Zac Efron's been beefing up his physique as of late, and it seems he's still working on it.

The 23-year-old actor was photographed multiple times last week going to and from the gym, and looking pretty damn hot in the process.

On Wednesday, he was snapped looking all sweaty and delicious leaving a gym in L.A. after getting his work out on.

On Thursday, he was photographed lifting an impressively large weight in a grey tank top that nicely reveals his bulging muscles.

I will admit Zac Efron-at-the-beach in June 2010 is my ideal Zac Efron, but I wouldn't kick this new Zac Efron outta bed.

One more hot pic after the jump.

"It's a W neck"

Thanks to Vanessa for sending in this pretty hullarious video spoofing the fashion of today.

I have a few favourite lines, which I'll drop in the comments. What are yours?

Kids these days! Who do they think they're kidding?!

On the cover: Victoria Beckham for Allure

Victoria Beckham takes the March 2011 cover of Allure Magazine, which is the 20th Anniversary issue.

The fashion designer and mother of three is currently pregnant with her fourth child.

"I feel really content personally and professionally," Beckham tells the mag. "I'm not freaked out about getting older. I'm growing older with the most amazing man I've ever met — with my soul mate. Life's great."

One of the things that makes life great, she goes on, is the success of her fashion line.

"There’s nothing better than being in L.A. with my kids, cooking dinner with my husband and having a romantic night in, and I get an email, and Demi Moore, Madonna, Drew Barrymore, Blake Lively, or whoever it is, is doing the red carpet and wearing my dress."

I kind of love Victoria, I just wish this cover shot reflected her spunk and energy a little bit more. I find it a little bit underwhelming, don't you?

James Van Der Beek plays James Van Der Beek

Looks like playing an over-confident version of himself in those Funny or Die videos has paid off.

James Van Der Beek has just been cast to play James Van Der Beek in a sitcom in development at ABC called Don’t Trust the Bitch in Apt. 23.

In the pilot, the Beek will play a heightened version of himself, and the best friend of the title character, played by Krysten Ritter.

Vulture reports the role of a celeb had always been envisioned as part of the show, with a character named Lance Bass in the original script.

Bet the former NSyncer's wishing he came up with DILF Khakis.

On the cover: Mila Kunis for W

Another day, another beautiful Mila Kunis magazine cover.

This time the Black Swan star takes the cover of March 2011's W Magazine.

The young actress tells the mag that despite the blood, sweat and tears she put into training for her role as a ballerina, she'll never dance again.

"I’m a strong believer in mind over matter, but I didn’t fully understand what that meant until this production," she says. "I was like, Well—I wear heels; I can do this. I was wrong: Christian Louboutins are uncomfortable, but I screamed the first time I put on a pointe shoe."

And while her acting career's really heating up, she says it wasn't until That 70s Show ended that she started taking it seriously.

"I didn’t really think of acting as a career," she says. "I’m the first person in my family to not be a college graduate. I always associate careers with college diplomas. When I was 22, my contract with That 70s Show ended, and I had to make a conscious decision about what I wanted to do with my life . . . I realized for the first time that I couldn’t imagine doing anything else. So I had to make acting a career—to make smart choices instead of choices made for fun."

Kelly Clarkson: Inspired by Dre, Tina, Radiohead, Aretha

Kelly Clarkson took to Facebook Monday night to reveal even more details of her upcoming album with a string of status updates, which started with some love for Dr. Dre.

"I have been so tired of music lately," she wrote. "It just all sounds the same and artists are forced to record songs that sound like every other song or their music will get shelved. Finally, Dr. Dre comes out with something so great. His new song 'I need a doctor' feat Eminem and Skylar Grey is a fresh taste of what music has the capability of being. Thank you Dr. Dre! I'm inspired and loving every second of this song."

The Since You Been Gone singer went on to reveal she'll record the last song of her new record on February 25.

"This album was influenced by Prince, Tina Turner, Sheryl Crow, Radiohead and there's a little bit of a Country vibe/influence on a couple of songs," she continued.

"Oh and also one of my favorites on the new album is highly influenced by Aretha Franklin and Stevie Wonder. Eric Hutchinson wrote it ....the album is gonna be a great pop record! I can't wait for y'all to hear it!"

I can't wait either, Kelly! I hope your next status update is about a release date for the new album!

On the cover: Sofia Vergara for Shape

Sofia Vergara looks her damn gorgeous self on the cover of Shape Magazine for March 2011.

Though her body grabs a lot of attention on red carpets, the 38-year-old Modern Family star says it's her face she's more concerned about.

"If I walk outside without lipstick, I feel naked," she says.

"All the women in my family are that way. We put make-up on to give birth. When I started feeling contractions with my son, the first thing I did was wash and blow-dry my hair before I went to the hospital. You never know how long you’ll be in labour. It could be days until you’re able to take a shower."

As for her favourite body part, Vergara says she has a different opinion from the opposite sex.

"I’m sure men would tell you it’s my boobs, but I like my eyes," she says. "They have a natural cats-eye shape, so I try to play that up."

Find out more of Vegara's rules of attraction at Shape's website.

The Look: Rihanna in Christian Dior Haute Couture

Rihanna looked all kinds of right walking the red carpet at last night's Brit Awards in London.

The What's My Name singer rocked a gorgeous and playful Christian Dior Haute Couture gown, featuring purple floral bodice, voluminously layered bright blue skirt, and lime green waist sash.

She kept her red hair tamed, and finished the look with bright blue Louboutin pointy pumps.

Playful, youthful and bright. It all works for me!

Thoughts?

Wednesday deliciousness: Channing Tatum for GQ

Channing Tatum looks smokin' fine for the March 2011 issue of GQ.

The 30-year-old actor, who next appears in the Eagle, gives me all kinds of reasons to love him in the article. Including:

1. An appreciation for morning beer:
"I'm having a beer," Tatum announces, cracking open a can of Rusty's Coors Light. He hands me one. "You should have one, too. It'll make us both feel better."

2. No shame of his stripper past:
"This is going to be crazy," he recalls saying to a fellow dancer, who is still a friend, as they pulled on G-strings for their first shift at a nightclub called Joy. Then they made a pact: "Okay, we're go ing to do this for a little while just to be crazy and insane; then we're getting out."

"I had wanted to tell people," Tatum said in the car. "I'm not ashamed of it. I don't regret one thing. I'm not a person who hides shit."

3. His ability to camp on a whim (with Snuggies!):
There was a Rite Aid in Rosamond, the last outpost of civilization before the barren road that would lead us to Randsburg, and Chan asked the driver to pull over. Inside, he barreled down the aisle and started plucking merchandise from the shelves. A sleeping bag, hat, and jacket for me, plus firewood, a pack of iced Christmas cookies, glow sticks. At the cash register he picked up two Snuggies, just because Snuggies are "hilarious."

"And we're going to need two of those," he told the cashier as we checked out, pointing to a bottle of silver PatrĂ³n. "This is going to be so fuunnn."

Oh take me now, Mr. Tatum. Your whole way of life seems all kinds of ideal.

Click inside for more hot pics from the shoot, and over here for more of the cover story.

Happy Wednesday!
