Toronto Cavalcade of Lights 2011
I continued to get into the Christmas season this weekend, as Holly and I checked out the Cavalcade of Lights at Nathan Phillips Square Saturday evening.
After a delightful dinner together, we walked over to City Hall, where crowds of spectators were enjoying a free concert and skating on the outdoor rink.
We managed to catch the end of Jarvis Church's performance, which concluded with all the evening's performers joining in for a rendition of John Lennon's Happy Christmas.
Holly and I swayed and sang along.
We were then treated to a fantastic 10-minute firework display, set to ominous music, which eventually gave way to more festive tunes.
Lights shot up and around the city hall buildings, and I have to say, I was quite impressed!
I'd never attended the Cavalcade of Lights before, but I'd definitely recommend it to anyone wanting a fun free outing to get them in the merry mood.
It was quite the cavalcade indeed. Don't believe me? Check out the video below.

Spot the enthusiasm enthusiasts!
Hey guys, remember how earlier this week I told you about how much fun Renee and I had at the Santa Claus Parade last weekend?
Well now there's more photographic evidence, thanks to the parade's Santa Cam, which snapped pics of the crowd from the big Santa float.
See if you can spot us in these three photos.
It's like Where's Waldo, but more fun because you're searching for me and Renee!
Take a look, then click inside for the reveal if you're stumped.

Kevin Keller gets married
Who'd have thunk that a comic book series about a high school kid torn between a blonde and a brunette would get so progressive?!
In an upcoming Archie comic, Kevin Keller -- the series' first openly gay character -- marries his military sweetheart Clay.
Take a look at that cover. An interracial same-sex military couple getting married on the cover of an Archie comic. I love living in the the year 2011!

Kelly Clarkson live at The Troubador
I don't know what I did to deserve such an amazing gift on a random Wednesday evening, but I am so so so grateful for this!
Kelly Clarkson posted a 20-minute live show on her VEVO page, shot at L.A.'s The Troubador last month.
The setlist of new and old hits includes Dark Side, Mr. Know It All, Already Gone, Sober and My Life Would Suck Without You.
I swear to god, anyone who's ever dissed Kelly for being fat, boring, manufactured, or whatever else needs to watch this video and shut their damn mouths, because it proves what she can really do with but a microphone and a room of fans.
I was mesmerized -- mesmerized! -- with this video. Her voice is just so pure you cannot deny her talent. It does things on Already Gone and Sober that give me goosebumps. Don't believe me? Check out 15:50. Goosebumps via YouTube video!
Kelly is so relaxed and casual in this video, and truly excited to be performing for her fans. I think it really reflects that she finds joy in performing more than anything else.
WATCH IT!!!

Adam Levine does yoga
Ever wondered what Adam Levine looks like doing Yoga?
Oh good. Cause Details Magazine offers the answer with this new photo shoot.
I've recently considered taking up yoga, and now that Levine confirms it will prevent me from getting a thick neck, I'm pretty much sold.
“Weights made my neck thick, and I would be like, ‘I’m turning into a monster!’ Yoga takes what you have and molds and sculpts it, which is a much more natural way to look and feel,” he tells the mag.
More yoga poses here.

Emma Stone in Chanel Couture
Emma Stone was absolute perfection as she arrived to last week's MoMA tribute to Pedro Almodovar.
The Crazy Stupid Love actress looked crazy stupid gorgeous in a black and white patterned Chanel Couture 2009 dress.
The gown featured a mid-slit, which revealed her black pumps, and floral shoulder detail.
I'm pretty sure I've featured Stone's fashion choices more than any other star this year -- and for good reason!

Miss Piggy on Chelsea Lately
I sure am going to miss The Muppets when promotion for their new movie dies down -- it's so much fun seeing our favourite felt creations doing the publicity rounds!
Case in point: Miss Piggy recently brought the sass to an interview with Chelsea Handler!
In the interview, Piggy discusses her body type, getting back together with The Muppets and working with Amy Adams.
She also answers the question we've all been wondering about her relationship with Kermit: "Has there been penetration?"

Last week's GQ Men of the Year party in L.A. counted Armie Hammer, Adam Scott, Kellan Lutz, Chris Pine, Chris Pratt and Jon Hamm among its guests.

Alanis Morissette at the AMAs
Alanis Morissette walked the red carpet at last night's American Music Awards, where she revealed she's got a whopping 31 songs recorded for her next album.
"I'll have to pick the final 12 -- the Sophie's Choice process of letting go of the ones that don't make it," she said of prepping the album for a spring or summer 2012 release.
For those worried that Morissette might lose her edge, now that she's a mommy, fear not.
"It's not one of those records that is a lullabye record of any kind, but there is some touching of that innocence," she said. "It's hard not to be profoundly effected by motherhood."
It was great to see Alanis back on the red carpet, and I'm ecstatic that we can look forward to new music from her in 2012!

And while I encourage you to check out this video of Kermit and Piggy playing Password on Jimmy Fallon last week, I also encourage you to watch the above retro clip.
From 1979's The Muppet Movie, Kermit and and Fozzie sing 'Movin' Right Along,' which I've adopted as my new theme song.
Such posi vibes!
Thanks to Diana for posting it on my wall last week.

Toronto Santa Claus Parade 2011
I kicked off the holiday season yesterday, as I do every year, by attending Toronto's incomparable Santa Claus Parade.
And just like any other year, it proved to be the most festive of afternoons, which really got me in the spirit. Marching bands, drumlines, princesses and upside down clowns spread holiday cheer through Toronto, while larger-than-life floats depicted fantasies and favourite characters, from the Smurfs to the Muppets.
What made this year's parade extra special was that my special nectarine Renee was in town to enjoy it with me!
This meant the enthusiasm I normally have for the parade was amplified, and boy did Renee and I let those around us know it.
"I'm a waver," Renee told me at the beginning of the parade. "I wave at everyone."
"Me too!" I replied.
And neither of us was lying. We waved at everyone who passed by, and stared them down (in a friendly way) until they responded. At first, many of the parade participants had looks of confusion on their faces.
"Why are these adults more excited than the kids around them?" they may have wondered. But they then quickly accepted our enthusiasm for the parade, and responded with friendly smiles and waves back.
Renee also invented a little arm pump dance to show our enthusiasm, which quickly caught on with some parade participants.
Namely, Ronald McDonald, Debbie Travis and Mrs. Claus were so moved by our moves that they quickly joined in our arm-pumps. Yes, that's right. The three biggest celebs in the parade -- save for Santa -- could not resist! Our enthusiasm was literally contagious!!!
Some of the spectators around us began watching Renee and I more than the actual parade. One adorable baby in front of us was particularly taken with us, and even joined in as much as she could.
After two hours of laughing, dancing and being merry, Renee and I started to think maybe next year we should grab our favourite elf costumes and march down the street ourselves.
"If watching the parade was a competition, we just won the whole thing," I said as we headed to Starbucks for a round of gingerbread lattes.
More photos from our merry festivities are inside.

Kelly Clarkson VH1 Unplugged: What Doesn't Kill You (Stronger)
Kelly Clarkson performs an acoustic set as part of her own VH1 Unplugged special, airing tonight.
The five-song special includes the above performance of her next bound-to-be-a-superhit single 'What Doesn't Kill You (Stronger).'
Listen to the damn note she hits at 2:35 and try to tell you're not impressed. I dare you!
I seriously don't know what's wrong with that audience though, sitting there like bumps on logs. If I heard that voice grace my eardrums, I would be up out of my seat cheering that girl and her voice of a generation on.
Of course, I won't have that chance anytime soon. Because I don't live in Niagara Falls.
I love you forever anyways, Kelly.

GQ: Who's your man of the year?
GQ recently announced four of its 'Men Of The Year,' who each get their own December 2011 cover, as per the photos below.
KING: Jay-Z
I think he could make this list most years, right?
SHOWMEN: Jimmy Fallon and Justin Timberlake
Jimmy's really come into his own as a late-night host; Timberlake, meanwhile, still refuses to make new music.
KNOCKOUT: Mila Kunis
Not a dude, but GQ tends to break its own rule like this every year.
BREAKOUT: Michael Fassbender
I've seen his name so much this year, but still am not completely sure who he is. Still, based on this photo, I would.
Who's your 2012 man of the year?!

Oh hey there, Jennifer Carpenter
As Dexter's Debra Morgan, Jennifer Carpenter expertly portrays one of my favourite characters on TV.
Now the on-screen lieutenant shows a softer side in this new photo shoot for StyleCaster.
While Carpenter says she's much different than the foul-mouthed tomboy she plays on TV, she also admits she's not quite used to model behaviour yet.
"Most people's fears are public speaking. Mine is doing something like this, but I'm learning how to have fun with it!" she said during the shoot.

Tessa Bonhomme, David Pelletier win Battle of the Blades
In case you missed it, last night's season three finale of Battle of the Blades saw Tessa Bonhomme and David Pelletier take home the winners' trophy.
And might I just say, of course they did. Olympic gold medalist and expert commentator David Pelletier is such a hilarious stud and winner in general.
Bonhomme, who played on Canada's women's hockey team at the Vancouver 2010 Olympics, is the first female hockey player to compete on the show.
“I walked in here a hockey player, surrounded by seven figure skating girls and not knowing what to expect and I had the time of my life,” Bonhomme said afterwards. “I would do this 20 times over.”
As winners, Bonhomme and Pelletier get $100,000 to split between their chosen charities: the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation CIBC Run for the Cure (Sudbury Run Site) and Ronald McDonald House Southern Alberta.

Drake on ...
BUSINESS ASPIRATIONS:
"I'm very obsessed with smell so I actually want to — my dream, to be honest with you, my goal, is to form a fragrance and lifestyle line like candles, incense, room spray, and fragrance. I like Sephora for the store that I'd like to put it in. So that's a big thing for me. I'm actually working on it. You know, that paired with some acting, maybe, like, one album in there somewhere."
PERCEPTIONS OF HIS OWN MUSIC:
"I only reference my own music when I'm making new music. I don't listen to my music otherwise. I like other peoples' music too much. I love music. But that's not mine, you know? I hear my own voice and I don't hear a singer. It's tough. I'm very hard on myself. People come up to me and say with the most flattering compliments ever and I just don't hear it. I'm always like, 'Ahh, I need to get better. I need to start doing things better.'"
NAMING NAMES IN HIS SONGS:
"I do, I can't stop it. I can’t stop my emotion; I always go with my initial thought. I never pull back and say, 'Oooh, I should — ' Unless it's like someone crazy or something, and I'll be like, 'I shouldn't say that person's name.'"
FLORENCE WELCH:
"Florence didn't make this album. I saw her when I was in London and we hung out and I love her with all my heart and her new album is incredible. But we didn't get a chance to get back in the studio. But I love Florence and I really want to make music with her at some point. It's on the agenda, right next to Justin Timberlake. 'Cause Justin Timberlake is someone I wanted on this album so bad and I didn't get him."
THIS UGLY SHIRT:
"That was like a classic tribute to, you know, the vintage silk Versace. I'm not really too much into patterned shirts. But I am wearing cheetah jeans right now. I don't know. You know [laughs] ... maybe you can print that my biggest goal in 2012 is to be respected in the fashion world."

Kelly Clarkson tour dates announced
Kelly Clarkson announced the dates for her 2012 tour today, and let me tell you the Canadian cities she's visiting.
Windsor, London and Niagara Falls, Ont.
Now let me tell you a Canadian city she is not visiting: Toronto.
WHAT THE HELL KELLY CLARKSON?!?
This is the second tour in a row that Kelly has not stopped in Toronto, instead opting for Niagara Falls. Does anyone know why the voice of a generation would make a choice like this?
Seriously, I need to know. It seems odd to ignore the biggest city in Canada two tours in a row, so there must be a reason. Someone explain it to me, as I listen to Adele's Someone Like You and cry.

Ron Swanson in alpaca underwear
While we all know shirtless pretty boys are no strangers to this website, today I'm happy to feature the manliest of men in a state of undress.
Parks & Recreation's Ron Swanson (Nick Offerman) is participating in NBCUniversal's new 'The More You Know' PSAs, as part of the conglomerate's green initiative.
As you'll see from the video above, this theme somehow got Mr. Swanson down to his skivvies.

The Look: Demi Lovato in Roland Moret
Demi Lovato made quite the fashion statement as she arrived at the Latin Grammy Awards last night in Las Vegas.
The 19-year-old singer wore a long-sleeve, floor-length magenta dress by Roland Moret. Oh yeah, and in case you didn't notice, it featured quite the plunging neckline.
Demi had a little bit of a tumultuous year as she dealt with personal issues, but last night's red carpet appearance sure does say "I'm back, and look at me now, bitches."
I love it!
Long side-parted curls and red lips complete the look.

Take me now, Henry Cavill
I just can't help myself. I have to post this photo of Henry Cavill, if only so in the process of writing this I can tear my eyes away from his gorgeousness for a few moments and try to regain my composure.
The Immortals star was photographed arriving at the Vancouver International Airport, in town to continuing shooting Man of Steel. To call him a a damn stud is an unfair understatement.
Seriously. I took a Cavill break at work yesterday to take in this photo, and had to control myself from making audible noises of pleasure.

The Look: Lady Gaga in Alexander McQueen
Lady Gaga appeared at last night's Bambi Awards in Gemany, where one of her looks included this stunning Alexander McQueen spring 2012 design.
The gown features a gold embroidered bodice and headpiece, with a voluminous white ruffled skirt.
When I went to the Alexander McQueen exhibit at the Met over the summer, so many pieces made me think "Lady Gaga could wear this. And Maybe she has."

TLC: Diggin' On You
The past few times I've gone shopping at The Bay -- which is maybe three times since the summer -- TLC's Diggin' On You has been playing over the speakers.
You have no idea how happy this makes me.
While Waterfalls and Creep are clear faves from their epic 1995 album Crazy Sexy Cool, Diggin' On You has such a great groove.
Even when I'm done shopping, I stick around the store till the song finishes. Then I tweet about it.
I truly miss TLC releasing new music, don't you?. RIP Left Eye.

Alanis launches new website!
Alanis Morissette launched a new website yesterday, which promises a lot more interactivity from the singer, writer, mother, wife, pet owner, and great Canadian.
She explains what to expect from the new site in the above video, which encompasses so many of the things I love about Alanis -- honesty, sincerity, humility, humour and a sense of giving.
"There will be no nudity ... unless someone hacks it out of my cell phone," Alanis jokes in the video.
In addition to working on a new album and book, Alanis recently published her first blog about motherhood on iVillage.com.
"See, I thought postpartum would be all about the birth of my baby," she writes. "I had no idea the person I’d always dreamed of becoming was being born at the exact same time."
Could not love her more.

Kermit the Frog on ...
JASON SEGEL'S FILMOGRAPHY:
"I do like Jason's movies! Especially Forgetting Sarah Marshall—that opening scene inspired me to continue to work naked."
HIS RELATIONSHIP STATUS WITH MISS PIGGY:
"I've known Piggy for a number of years—a number of decades, really, though she might not appreciate that candor. But yes, there is a spark for certain, and it is still sparking. Passion, I would say. It's passion to either extreme."
STAYING YOUTHFUL:
"No, no, I haven't had any work done, exactly. It's just good clean swamp living. It's one of those places where you can get away from it all."
FILMING WITH JASON:
"Jason is very tall and very funny, but not necessarily in that order."
JASON SEGEL ON ...
THE APPEAL OF SHOOTING A MUPPETS MOVIE:
"I have a very simple answer to that: The Muppets are never mean. To anyone. They go for genuine old-timey laughs and puns, and it's never at anyone's expense."
CASTING THE ROLE OF KERMIT:
"We didn't know if we could get him, so our backup plan was Morgan Freeman."
WORKING WITH KERMIT:
"Kermit comes up to waist level to me at best so I did a lot of sitting in this movie ... It worked out well because I much prefer sitting to walking or standing."

Hello was a standout track on Kelly Clarkson's new album Stronger from the first time I listened to it.
It's got a casual funky vibe, and it doesn't take itself too seriously. No overwrought emotion here, Kelly's just having a good time with this ditty!

Yes, the boy who who shot to fame at the age of six costarring alongside Tom Cruise in Jerry Maguire, is now 21 and evidently ripped as all hell!

This week, Kermit the Frog takes the cover of Entertainment Weekly for a story on 'How The Muppets Were Saved' from increasing obscurity.
I was a little bit dismayed to read this Hollywood Reporter article, which describes how some of the original Muppets performers didn't come on board the new movie, because they thought Jason Segel's interpretation strayed too far from the original Muppets spirit. Specifically Frank Oz, who previously performed Fozzie Bear and Miss Piggy, refused to participate in the new film.
But, from what I've seen of the movie so far, I still have high hopes. A little update of the Muppets' brand of comedy may have been necessary to introduce them to a new generation, but early sneak peeks suggest their original heart and humour is alive and well.
Click inside for three preview clips from the new movie. And check it out for yourself in theatres November 18.

The Look: Michelle Williams in Oscar de la Renta
Michelle Williams was golden girl gorgeous as she walked the red carpet at a Hollywood screening of her film My Week With Marilyn last night.
The 31-year-old actress donned a pretty Oscar de la Renta dress in gold, featuring sleeveless bodice and bell skirt.
Ms. Williams finished the look with strappy Jimmy Choo heels, a Salvatore Ferragamo clutch, and her ever-cute pixie cut.

SNL: Kardashian divorce sketch
It's funny. I've never watched an episode of Keeping Up With The Kardashians, but this SNL sketch from last night depicts exactly what I imagine it to be.
When I watch it as an SNL sketch, it's LOL-worthy. If I tried to watch the actual E! show, I think I'd just feel disgusted with the show, and myself for not spending my time better.

Armie Hammer in a suit
Armie Hammer cleaned up real nice at the Hollywood premiere of J.Edgar last night.
Hammer stars alongside Leonardo DiCaprio, as J. Edgar Hoover’s longtime assistant (and lover) in the biopic.
The stunning, dashing, dreamy actor donned a handsome grey suit with matching tie.
More photos inside of this adorably gorgeous man. Have I missed any adjectives? I can't help myself.

The Look: Zhang Ziyi in Christian Dior
My goodness. When was the last time you saw something/someone this gorgeous?
Zhang Ziyi floated across the Rome Film Festival premiere of Love For Life in a breathtaking Christian Dior Resort 2011 dress.
The baby blue gown featured shimmering embroidered detail, ribbon detail at the waist, and was paired with a matching clutch.
A clean bun and drop earrings finish this look fit for a princess.
More photos inside, because I'm mesmerized by her beauty.

Kelly Clarkson: The War Is Over
The War Is Over is one of my favourite songs off Kelly Clarkson's new album Stronger.
I can't stop listening to it, and my only fear is that I'll wear it out.
I do encourage you to listen to it; love it; feel empowered when she sings "All I have to say is you don't deserve me."
I can't wait to hear it live!

On the cover: Scarlett Johansson for Vanity Fair
I'm not a huge Scarlett Johansson fan, but I must say she looks pretty stunning on the cover of Vanity Fair.
Photograph by Mario Sorrenti, styling by Jessica Diehl.
I was thinking of asking for a subscription to Vanity Fair for Christmas. Do you think I'd read it? Or just clutter my coffee table with it?
Scarlett's cover story excerpt here.

A good reason to have kids
If I ever had any doubt about having kids, this video has reinforced it's a must, if only for sheer entertainment factor.
Earlier this week Jimmy Kimmel encouraged his audience to tell their kids they ate all their Halloween candy, and submit videos of the result on YouTube.
The reactions are pretty damn great.

The Look: America Ferrera in Nicole Miller
America Ferrera looked fan-friggin-tastic in London on Monday, as she announced her upcoming turn as Roxie Hart in the West End production of Chicago.
The 27-year-old actress wore a long-sleeved, curve-hugging Nicole Miller dress in red.
What a knockout!
Ms. Ferrera finished the look with matching red Giuseppe Zanotti velvet peep-toe slingbacks.
I daresay this looks way better than those traveling pants ever did.

Aubrey Plaza's missed connection
"I was at this juice bar, and he came in. I didn't recognize him. He said, 'I'm a big fan of the show,' and I said, 'Thank you. Are you an actor?' He kind of smirked and said, 'Yeahhh...' I asked his name, and he said, 'Ryan,' but it didn't click. I was like, 'We worked together, didn't we? You look so familiar.' He kept smirking, like I was messing with him. I got my juice and left. I missed my shot."-- Aubrey Plaza, on meeting Ryan Gosling, in Rolling Stone's Hot List issue
