If you haven't heard of James Wolk yet, you soon will.

The 26-year-old star of Fox's short-lived Lone Star is now appearing in season two of Shameless, in addition to a guest arc on ABC sitcom Happy Endings.

And contrary to what the above still from the comedy may suggest, Wolk actually guest stars as a love interest for Max, played by Adam Pally.

Wolk, who first appears on the Feb. 8 episode, plays Grant, Max's former boyfriend who just may reignite the flame.

I like the light simplicity of this look, which contrasts the busy getup she wore to the Golden Globes a couple weeks back.

My only nitpick is that with these asymmetrical hemlines, I always want the dress to be shorter or the shoes to be more powerful.

I get too distracted by the feet otherwise, when Michelle's hair and makeup are quite flawless and deserve greater attention.

I've got my fingers crossed that Ms. Williams really wows us at the Oscars next month!

RyGuy was too busy working to attend the Golden Globes earlier this month, where he was nominated for both The Ides of March and Crazy Stupid Love (which I watched again last night, and still love).

The actor did manage to suit up for last week's Hua Hin International Film Festival Opening Ceremony in Hua Hin, Thailand, however.

Looks like 2012 is going to be a good year for Montreal sightings, as the New Year has started off with a bang! Sophia and Bella, the young stars of the Mugglesam YouTube channel were spotted shopping with their father at the PA Grocery store around the corner from my apartment.

They both wanted a baguette.

And in news so exciting I’ve been sitting on it since last year, Yanic Truesdale, better known as the Independence Inn concierge Michel from the Gilmore Girls, has been spotted not once, but TWICE in the Plateau neighbourhood. The first time walking North on St. Laurent and then again outside local celebrity hotspot Café Nevé.

As you may have heard by now, casting is underway for the first season of The Bachelor Canada.

"Is a Canadian version of The Bachelor really necessary?" you might be asking yourself. The obvious answer is no. The American version already has Canadian participants, and besides some stereotypically-Canadian dates that can be set up, I'm not sure how the Canuck version will differ.

Truth is, like most Canadian reality shows, Bachelor Canada is a cheap and easy way to fill some CanCon requirements.

For shits and giggles, I filled it out. Clearly I need to appear on this showcase of crazy.

Why would you like to be on the show?
I'd like to help the Canadian Bachelor come to realize this season's earth-shattering twist: that he's gay.

I'm perpetually single, and I'm coming to realize now that it's probably because I've yet to have the opportunity to date on television.

What are your most important goals in life?

What are your guilty pleasures?:
I feel no guilt in things that bring me pleasure. If Hanson and B4-4 don't sit permanently on your party playlists, maybe you need to think about what you feel guilty about.

The quality you most value in yourself?:
My ability to rap along with the last verse of the Eminem and Rihanna hit 'Love The Way You Lie,' and the first half of Nicki Minaj's rap in the David Guetta hit 'Where Them Girls At.'

The best piece of advice you've ever been given?:

What do you look for in a man?:
Tall, fit, handsome, beautiful eyes, great smile, wardrobe I can borrow, lover of laughing, can hold his own in a chip-eating showdown.

My recently-acquired collectors boxset of The OC: The Complete Series on DVD is what I currently live for. It reminds me of my youth in Chino, followed by my later youth in Newport, where Sandy Cohen taught me the intricacies of shmearing cream cheese on a bagel.

When CBC's Republic of Doyle premiered its third season earlier this month, much was made of Russell Crowe's guest starring role in the first episode back.

And while yes, I agree it's a huge get to have an Oscar-nominated actor like Crowe on a Canadian series, it was episode two of the season which really drew my attention. And if you check out the above still from the episode, you can see why!

Yes, our fine P.I. Jake Doyle (played by Allan Hawco) found himself stripping at gun point, to the glee of female fans everywhere.

I recently watched a good deal of Doyle for the first time, and must say it's actually quite the entertaining show. Not sure what kind of gay following this show has, but scenes like this one sure don't hurt in keeping my attention!

It continues to be one of my favourite shows on television thanks to its expertly-developed characters, beautifully acted by one of the best ensemble casts in the biz.

Currently I'm intrigued and a little bit worried that Amber's going to hook up with her current boss/local political candidate Bobby Little, causing a completely different type of shit storm from when she hooked up with Haddie's ex in season one.

But that's neither here nor there. What I really came on here to tell you is that after last week's episode I googled Jonathan Tucker, who plays Bobby Little. I discovered his acting credits include The Black Donnellys, White Collar, Criminal Minds and Royal Pains.

Oh yeah, I also discovered this is what he looks like in a leather vest ...

"[His character Brandon] is sort of using his body to imprison himself -- he’s imprisoned by his own physical urges and impulses. I don’t really know what to think of it ... How do you relate sexual addiction to the other addictions that seem to be more recognized and discussed?"

To that end, Fassbender says many of his characters are just trying to connect to each other in some way.

"We’re all trying to connect to each other and find some levels of intimacy. There’s so much going on in the world. There’s so much information being thrown at us—so many things are being sold to us, and we’re being told how we should appear and how to be more successful, blah, blah, blah. How does that manifest itself? In the pressures, the stress, this need to escape."

The 48-year-old Moneyball actor talks to the mag about roles he'd like to do over ("Um...the first 12 years of my career, I would think.") and his acting strengths ("I die really well, by the way. It’s one of my strong points. I just take a bullet well.")

He also reveals that, despite not being a crier at films, Life As A House did it to him.

"I was coming back from Cabo on my way to Montreal, and I got hit with Montezuma’s revenge. I could not keep anything down. I was stuck in a hotel room with no windows and was just doing what you do when you’re sick. On day two of this extremely painful episode, I watched a film called Life as a House ... I don’t know if it would still hit me the same way, but on my 27th hour of pure wretchedness, this movie just crushed me."

Miley wore a spring 2012 creation by David Coma to Wednesday night's People's Choice Awards in L.A.

The knee-length frock features a deep-V neckline with mesh overlay, draped front details and colourful accents around the hem.

For once, I feel like Miley isn't trying so hard. She looks gorgeous in this dress -- even comfortable -- and it suits a woman of her age.

Her sideswept locks seal the deal for me, while she finishes the look with metallic pumps and a silver clutch.

Two more delicious promo stills have been released from the upcoming film Magic Mike, confirming what I suspected all along: I don't give two shits if this movie's good, I'll watch anything that involves Channing Tatum, Matt Bomer and Alex Pettyfer in nothing but stripper neck ties.

The film, slated for a June 29 release, is loosely based on the Chan Chan man's early days as a stripper.

Earlier this week Bomer told EW about how he prepared for the role.

"I had never been waxed before," he said. "I did have to get partially waxed. I’m not a very hairy individual to begin with, but it was painful. But more than that, the pain didn’t bother me so much, it was more the feeling of feeling kind of prepubescent again, walking around with no hair on your legs, in jeans, feeling kind of naked all the time, that was odd."

The network announced last week that both Kelly Clarkson and Alanis Morissette have signed on to be advisors for the reality competition's second season.

Kelly will mentor members of Blake Shelton's team, while Alanis will mentor those on Adam Levine's team.

Now if they could work out a live duet together in between, I think I could just die a happy man right then!

"I've been privileged to have teachers and mentors through my life. And for me to be able to offer it back back just kind of ties the bow and completes the circle of life for me," Alanis says in the above video. "It's very poetic."

The reimagining of the song is so different from the original in a beautiful, haunting way. Never Again was never my fave song, but this version is just something magical.

As the new year approaches, I took some time to go back through the blog and pick out the people, TV shows, musicians, movies and real-life experiences that made 2012 awesome for this pop culture blogger.

The heartbreak of a British songstress, "photoshopped" abs of our favourite Canadian hunk, and a series of unfortunate bridal party mishaps connected us all through 2011.

RYAN GOSLING
While we've loved Ryan Gosling long time on outisthrough.com, this was certainly the year he hit the mainstream. With three major motion pictures released -- Crazy Stupid Love, Drive and The Ides of March -- the actor showed versatility and picked up fans from teenagers to soccer moms along the way. While he was beat out for Sexiest Man Alive, he certainly became the most meme'd celeb. Meanwhile, he impressed on the red carpet, the streets of New York, and on the talk show circuit. Oh yeah, and check out that fucking body.

ADELE
By now it's safe to say we've all turned to Adele's hit album 21, and specifically the heartbreaking track Someone Like You, to help us through a good cry. Am I right? The 23-year-old British songstress took the world by storm in 2011 with her heart wrenching album and astounding vocal abilities, and ends the year with the best-selling album as a result. A fan since I saw her perform Rolling in the Deep on Letterman, I vehemently support Adele when someone tells me they're not such a fan. (Shockingly, it's happened once)! As Adele recovers from throat surgery that sidelined her for half the year, we're all eagerly anticipating the (hopefully) triumphant return of one of music's most original voices.

EMMA STONE
Back in 2010 when Easy A was released, I wasn't completely sold on Emma Stone's appeal. But after this past year I can truly say I'm a believer! Beyond her fine movie releases from The Help to Crazy Stupid Love, girl is fearless on the red carpet and hits the mark nine times out of 10. In fact, her looks were featured more than any other celeb's on the blog this year! Combine that style with a humble and youthful personality, and Emma Stone is one to watch for years to come.

SCREAM 4
It may not have hit big with mass movie going audiences, but faithful fans of the franchise -- including yours truly -- were largely satisfied with this addition to the original trilogy. If there was an award for most meta, self-referential film, this one would probably take the cake. Scream 4 succeeded by channeling the wit and snarkiness of the original, and adding a whole lot more gore.

PARKS AND RECREATION
This was the year Parks & Recreation finally got the recognition it deserves for being smart but not acerbic, and delivering characters and storylines that are well-rounded and funny without being overblown. Amy Poehler leads an ensemble cast of the best damn actors with the best damn chemistry on TV. If you're late to Pawnee fear not -- just TREAT YO'SELF in 2012 so you don't fall further behind!

DANIEL RADCLIFFE
At 22, 2011 saw Daniel Radcliffe graduate from 10 years of playing Harry Potter. And what was the first thing he chose to do? Take Broadway by storm in How To Succeed in Business Without Really Trying. I can say firsthand this charismatic kid is oozing tons of talent, and I can't wait to see what he does next!

CANADA DAY IN OTTAWA
Undoubtedly my favourite weekend of the summer, everywhere I turned during my Canada Day weekend visit to Ottawa I found the faces of some of my favourite people ever. Great friends, great parties, and great guest appearances by none other than William and Catherine, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge!

BRIDESMAIDS
Some called it the female Hangover, others dubbed it the film that proved women are funny. But those of us who knew the latter to be true for all time just called this breakout film like it is: hilarious. An impeccable ensemble cast led by Kristen Wiig, Maya Rudolph and Melissa McCarthy pop off the screen, thanks to fantastic writing with both humour and heart. Jon Hamm and Chris O'Dowd, meanwhile, ensure ample opportunity to swoon. And just when we thought we couldn't laugh any louder, the DVD release offered a slew of amazing bonus features.

HENRY CAVILL
The above photo of the 27-year-old British actor on the Man of Steel set is enough to make any man blow his load. Am I right? 2011 saw Mr. Cavill flex his muscles for theatre-goers in The Immortals, while teasing us with an even more bulked-up bod for 2013's new Superman flick.

JENNIFER CARPENTER
After years of procrastination, this year I caught up on four seasons of Dexter in but one summer. It provided perhaps the most suspense-filled before-bed TV binges of my life. And while the recently-concluded sixth season was unfortunately lacklustre, Jennifer Carpenter's criminally underrated portrayal of Deb Morgan continues to impress. As the foul-mouthed Lieutenant, Carpenter has brought Deb from second banana position to push through as the most interesting character on this thrilling drama.

MUMFORD & SONS
After wowing international audiences with their impassioned Grammys performance in February, I first discovered Mumford & Sons while road tripping to Ottawa for Canada day. Simultaneously solemn and joyful, I spent many free moments on my patio this summer with a Mill St. Belgian Wit and Sigh No More. Seeing the band at the ACC in October -- twice the size of the band's biggest show to date -- proved a celebratory experience.

NEW YORK CITY
For the second time in our friendship, Vanessa and I ate our way through New York City. But this time it was summertime, which meant we were sweating profusely as we sought out Chuck Bass' hotel, headed to see Daniel Radcliffe on Broadway, hipster-watched in Brooklyn and sang the Alicia Keys and Jay-Z hit Empire State of Mind at every possible moment.

THE MUPPETS
It didn't take any convincing to get me into the movie theatre to see the Muppets' return to the big screen. But just in case the young'uns needed a little persuasion, our favourite fuzzy friends hit us hard with viral videos, talk show appearances and magazine photo spreads to remind us they're not only back, but they can hold their own in an increasingly crowded media landscape.

BRITNEY SPEARS
2011 will go down in history as the year I bought my first Britney Spears album -- and boy was it a great decision. Though I'm still not convinced Ms. Spears actually cares to be in showbiz anymore, her producers helped her put together an eclectic mix of non-stop party thumpers. Till The World Ends will keep me dancing until the world, literally, ends.

"It's so refreshing to watch an honest performance based on nothing but talent and emotion. That voice! You can't fake this! Gorgeous gorgeous gorgeous."

2. Till The World Ends, Britney Spears
"The album leads with Till The World Ends, by far my favourite track off the album ... It is impossible not to dance in your chair when this song amps up. With lyrics that proclaim 'See the sunlight, we ain't stopping, keep on dancing till the world ends' this could easily be the anthem of my life."

3. What Doesn't Kill You (Stronger), Kelly Clarkson
"Once you get past the first verse it's non-stop dance fun. It would've made a great opening single from the album. But that's okay -- it's not too late for it to be a great second single!"

Jordan Eberle, NHL player of Edmonton Oilers. My brother reports that he makes like $800,000/yr and is only about 20 yrs old. He's known for his dopey sleepy eyes and awful teeth. We were at David's Teas, just about to leave when my brother's keen eye noticed the hockey player walk in. He maintained a respectful distance but I went back in and pretended to look at tea behind him. He was just wearing jeans and a hoodie... no one seemed to notice who he was except for my brother -- who made enough eye contact with Jordan that we suspect Jordan knew that Chris knew who he was. He was holding two big boxes which contained remote control helicopters. Presents? Or toys? I should have asked!

A new Christmas tradition

After sufficiently stuffing our faces with turkey dinner on Christmas day, a few cousins, my brothers and I invented a new game we could all enjoy.

It's called "Recite as many Home Alone and Home Alone 2 quotes as you possibly can."

It proved to be a real team effort, and a bonding exercise that brought us even closer together. I'm so glad I recorded it on video, because it's still making me laugh, as you can clearly hear it did at the time.

God damn, my family makes me so proud.

Well, the big day is here my friends, and so I just want to take a minute to wish you and yours all the best this fine Christmas day!

In true Mejaski holiday tradition, we spent our Christmas Eve watching National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation and Always Sunny's Christmas special, before heading to bed and waiting for Santa to come.

We've got a big day of food and family ahead of us -- not to mention even more festivities in the days to come.

And while I do indeed hope Santa is good to you, I'm also glad we've got Bert, Ernie and Mr. Hooper to remind us generosity of spirit and being around loved ones is so much more important than presents.

Happy holidays and best wishes to keep this holiday spirit with you year-round!

It's beginning to feel a whole lot like Christmas!

What a whirlwind of holiday festivities the past few weeks has been!

We're now less than a week from Christmas, and I sure can tell! The Christmas parties and seasonal activities sure have amped up, and I've taken advantage of every opportunity to eat, drink and be merry.

Things officially got festive a couple weeks ago when I visited home and decorated the family Christmas tree with my parents and brother, before we all went out for dinner and a hilarious Second City show.

Then, on Wednesday, Gillian, Ashley, Diana and I attended Andy Kim's Christmas show, where some of Canada's greatest performers got together to raise money for Gillian's Place. The lineup included Sam Roberts, Ron Sexsmith, Buck 65, Lights, Arkells, Dru, and Sarah Harmer.

Each performer played one of their own hits, as well as a holiday song, the latter of which saw some fun collaborations. Sam Roberts performed Little Drummer Boy, which was just too cute, before a rousing rendition of Don't Walk Away Eileen. A highlight indeed! Arkells also proved highly entertaining, while I discovered I knew more Andy Kim songs than I had previously realized.

The next evening I joined Diana and family for a performance of The National Ballet's Nutcracker. It was my first time at the ballet, and I was so excited!

After watching the show I can say I really want to go back! The sets, costumes and music were amazing, but obviously it was the dancing that was truly astounding. It was impossible not to be engaged in the feats of physical beauty the ballet dancers performed on the stage. Also, male dancers in tights = the finest asses I perhaps have ever seen.

I ended off the week with my office Christmas party, where my Secret Santa knew just how to wrap my LCBO gift card ...

... and I learned through caricature that I look like Luke and/or Owen Wilson ...

From there, the weekend is a blur of Christmas season visits, including quality time with my cousin Jass, some intense Saved by the Bell viewing with Katie, and a reunion with my former roommate/always soulmate Devon.

On Sunday we took a lovely stroll through the Christmas Market in the Distillery District, where we enjoyed the music of carollers, and treated ourselves to chocolate-covered bacon ...

As I write this I'm sitting in my parents' living room, watching reruns of Scrubs with the glow of the Christmas tree filling the room. Aren't Christmas holidays great?

Q&A: Dru talks 'On The Brink'

Canadian R&B artist Dru released his second solo album On The Brink last month, at which point he called Jackie from his house in the hills of Mississauga to talk about musical aspirations, hitting it big in Japan, and his single Gettin' It In.

Your new single Gettin’ It In is fun. How are people reacting to it?

It’s been great! At first I think people weren’t sure if it was me or not, because it was a different sound compared to a lot of the slower R&B stuff that people might know me for, but it’s picking up and catching on really nice. People seem to be liking the video.

Can we expect a similar style from the rest of the songs on the album?

I spent a lot of time in L.A. making the album, so it has a little bit of that dancey LMFAO kind of vibe, but of course that’s still merged with R&B and soul. The R&B influence always has to be there in my music.

I really wanted to give a strong —- I don’t want to say U.S. sound -— but I really wanted to step it up production-wise on this album. People seem to be loving it and I’m really happy about that.

What do you mean by U.S.-sound?

Production level for urban music is on another level in the U.S. It’s taken some years for Canada, on the urban side of things, to catch up and compete. But we’re definitely at that level now with artists like Drake, myself, or Justin Bieber. It’s definitely come a long way.

Is breaking into the U.S. market important to you?

It is important, but it used to be more important. I think I realize now that there are a lot of artists in different countries around the world that aren’t really mainstream or well-known in the U.S. but they’re huge in their own territory. So I’m more open to that now with the deals I’m getting in Japan, the UK and in other countries. But I mean it’d be cool to break in the States! I wouldn’t complain! It’s just not as much of a focus for me anymore.

Are you excited to get on the road to promote the album?

I love touring. I think that’s what I like most about making music is the actual performances. That’s what gives me the most joy. This time I’m going across Canada, probably a couple times over, and I’m going to plan some shows in the UK. The album will also be released in Japan so I’m going to be touring there also.

I’ve heard you have a big following in Japan, how do they react to your music there?

I didn’t get to tour in Japan when my first album was released and I really regret that because most of my sales are in Japan. They’ve really taken to my music. Stay With Me Always went to number two on the Japan R&B charts. I’m not sure why but they seem to love it. They’ve really gravitated to my music and this time around I’m looking forward to actually going out there to tour.

How did you go from being a member of In Essence to where you are now?

I always had plans to do a solo record, that was always kind of in the works and the group knew that, so as soon as we were let go from BMG in 2006 I just kind of went full steam ahead recording my first album The One. From then ‘til now it’s basically just been building the Dru brand and helping people see me as my own artist.

In your Twitter bio you call yourself the R&B Prince of the North. Where did that come from?

Someone called me that years ago when I was touring for the first album in ’07-’08 and it kind of just stuck. I feel like R&B-wise there aren’t that many Canadian artists who are really coming to the forefront and have done what I’ve done. Not to sound too arrogant, but I want to be the person who’s representing R&B for Canada. So why not be the Prince of the North? Ok, I’ll take that title.

Who influences you as a songwriter?

Frank Ocean, I’m promoting this guy in every interview right now. I’m really loving him as a songwriter and as an artist. He has an interesting way of phrasing things and painting this picture with his lyrics and melodies that kind of messes me up when I’m listening to it. I’m almost pissed off because I don’t understand how he can do it. I listen to his stuff and I’m like “damn, why can’t I think of something like that?” I really admire his phrasing and the way he paints a picture. Lyrically he’s very dope.

"So, I was joking with the cop, 'You think I could get my mugshot?' And I got it and an artist silk-screened it for me and now it's in my living room. But that’s when I got arrested for dancing. It wasn’t like I was consuming drugs and alcohol in this club that didn’t have its liquor license. But it gives me street cred and my mugshot is pretty hilarious."

Kelly Clarkson: Why Don't You Try

When I first bought Kelly Clarkson's new album Stronger, I had some trouble getting into Why Don't You Try. It's the least infectiously catchy track, and strays from the rest of the album's pop-rock vibe.

But these days I love getting into the groove of this song more and more. It's sultry and soulful and lets Kelly exercise those pipes in the way she was born to do.

It's definitely lower tempo, but I just know Kelly loves singing this type of song, and live she'd hit it out of the park vocally and emotionally.

(It's also a cover of an Eric Hutchinson track; Kelly outperforms the original, obvz).

Meryl Streep takes the January 2012 cover of the mag, being her breathtaking self in a photo by Annie Liebovitz.

This is the first time the 62-year-old actress, who next portrays Margarat Thatcher in The Iron Lady, has taken the cover of Vogue.

She tells the mag she was intrigued to play Thatcher, as the subjects covered in the film have interested her for a while.

What subjects exactly?

“Women and power and diminishment of power and loss of power,” she says. “And reconciliation with your life when you come to a point when you’ve lived most of it and it’s behind you. I have always liked and been intrigued by older people, and the idea that behind them lives every human trauma, drama, glory, jokes, love.”

NYC11: Saying so long ...

Alanis Morissette cast in Up All Night

Canadian icon Alanis Morissette has booked a guest role on NBC's rookie comedy Up All Night.

The Flavours of Entanglement singer (and recent mom) will play a hip hop legend and former member of Ava's (Maya Rudolph) 1990s hip hop band Sound LLC.

Those familiar with Alanis' pre-Jagged Little Pill discography know she's got those big-haired early-90s pop roots to really pull off the role.

She's also no comedy slouch.

Alanis' episode of Up All Night will air in early 2012.

NYC11: Comedy!

In August 2011 Chris and Vanessa traveled to New York City for a five-day friendship retreat. This week they share highlights through photos, video and the written word.

Not wanting to stay still for a minute while in NYC, Vanessa and I took in not one but two comedy shows during our time there.

First up, we checked out Comedy Cellar, which was coincidentally located downstairs from the pub where I ordered a classic combo during our last trip to NYC.

Crammed in behind small tables, we enjoyed some generally good comedy and some generally good food. Many of the comics this night I recognized from appearances on the NBC show Last Comic Standing.

The highlight was when one comic, Gary Gulman, ribbed on discmen (discmans?). Oh dated technology! You never cease to make me laugh.

Sunday evening we stood in the standby line for free comedy at the Upright Citizens Brigade. This place was most certainly LOL-worthy. I'm not sure if it was the more theatre-like seating that contributed to the atmosphere, but I overall found this experience more conducive to a hearty chuckle.

Because I waited multiple months to complete this writeup, I no longer remember the names of any of the hullaruios comics who performed that night. I know, I'm a jerk. I can tell you there was a hilarious female Asian comic, who I identify as such because she told jokes about being Asian, as well as about being female.

There was also a hilarious deadpan male comic, who comically read a ridiculous article from an Esquire-like magazine, told from the perspective of a female, on how to really impress/hold on to a guy. My signature cackle was alive and well during this reading, let me tell you.

But the real noteworthy experience occured when one of the last comics of the evening took the stage -- and was subsequently heckled.

It wasn't that he was unfunny. Quite the opposite. Dude -- a little spastic and all over the place -- was in the middle of a truly hilarious set, when he commented on his new haircut. "Do you like it?" he asked. Most of us politely nodded. But not one man in the middle of the audience.

"It looks stupid!" he called. "You look like a clown!"

Confused, we all waited to see what would happen next. The comic seemed game to play along.

"Oh, a clown?"

"Yeah, it looks stupid! You look like a mime!"

After a few more mime calls, a female audience member snapped and began vehemently defending our fine comic on stage.

"IF YOU DON'T LIKE THE COMEDY, GET THE FUCK OUT!!!" she bellowed.

Now we were all captivated. And a little frightened.

"But he looks like a mime! Look at him!" the heckler continued.

"I'M SERIOUS! HE'S FUNNY! IF YOU DON'T LIKE IT, FUCK OFF!" the comic's defender, who I can only imagine became the president of his fan club, continued.

Meanwhile, the comic continued playing along with the heckler, miming he was in a box, etc.

One more time the heckler took a shot at the comic, and one more time his new fan club prez defended him, to the point that the heckler did stand up and moved to the aisle at the side.

"Well that has never happened before," the comic said, laughing. "That was actually a bit we were trying to do. That heckler was a plant."

Fan club prez clearly wasn't paying attention to this part of the convo, however. When she saw that heckler was still standing in the aisle, she continued her heated "GET THE FUCK OUT!"s.

It took about 12 people to explain to her that it was just a bit, and this so-called heckler was asked to make the mime comparison.

Unfortunately for the rest of the audience, the moment to save the original bit had clearly passed. And though the comic told us "It normally kills," we were left wondering what the intended outcome would have been.

To make things even more awkward, we soon learned that the heckler was not any ordinary planted audience member. He was indeed the next comic to take the stage.

"So. You're clearly a fan," he cracked to his violent opposition fro mmoments before.

Claire Danes in Valentino

I love the pretty red dress Claire Danes wore to the Valentino Virtual Museum Launch Party in L.A. earlier this week.

Its bold red colour brings vibrance to a dress that makes clean lines out of a frilly fabric.

The lacy creation is, appropriately enough, Valentino spring 2012.

Danes grounds the look with a pair of black heels and a matching clutch.

NYC11: Alexander McQueen exhibit at the Met

In August 2011 Chris and Vanessa traveled to New York City for a five-day friendship retreat. This week they share highlights through photos, video and the written word.

Our journey to Savage Beauty, the Alexander McQueen exhibit at the Met, required a lot of hard work, determination, blood, sweat, tears, and waiting.

We naively approached the Met on a sunny Sunday afternoon, one week before the McQueen exhibit was to close.

As we entered, we saw a long line of people wrapped around the upper balcony. "Could they be waiting for the exhibit?" we wondered.

Then we saw it. A sign that said "Two hour wait."

Unwilling to spend a sunny afternoon waiting in a line, we came back an hour before the museum was to open on Tuesday morning -- our last day in NYC -- and were still surprised at how long the line was.

Luckily, to keep our interest, this lineup was chock-full of hipsters. Even more people-watching to be had than WIlliamsburg. I mean, check out these guys:

Just fantastic.

When the museum finally opened, we funnelled inside, bought tickets, and entered what we thought was a short line upstairs for the McQueen exhibit.

Once again, we were wrong.

We waited a good two hours in this line to get into the actual exhibit, at which point we were crammed like sardines through the actual gallery space.

It was unfortunate, as the pieces on display were certainly stunning. But you pretty much had to shank a bitch to get anywhere near them.

Elaborate gowns, shoes and head-pieces spanning McQueen's career were displayed on mannequins by collection, with descriptions of his inspirations detailed along the way, many of which recurred.

I had not previously realized, for example, McQueen made such prominent use of tartan to reflect his Scottish heritage.

I was quick to point out when I thought a piece looked particularly Lady Gaga-esque. I stood and stared at those armadillo shoes she's been known to rock for quite a while.

The ornate details, dramatic costume-like feel, and original combination of materials and textures provided for quite the rich collection of fashion to be examined, from a designer who tragically took his life too early.

I only wish the cattle-like feel of our experience in the museum hadn't prevented us from fully taking in the beauty.

Upon exiting the exhibit, I felt I had been in the presence of some fantastic artifacts of fashion, and wanted a greater, more comfortable opportunity to really take them in.

Entertainment Weekly has named Daniel Radcliffe its entertainer of the year for 2011!

The 22-year-old British actor completed the Harry Potter film franchise this year, in addition to getting rave reviews on Broadway in How To Succeed In Business Without Really Trying.

Also featured in the entertainers of the year issue are Ryan Gosling, Adele, Hugh Jackman, the cast of Bridesmaids and Viola Davis.

NYC11: Brooklyn!

In August 2011 Chris and Vanessa traveled to New York City for a five-day friendship retreat. This week they share highlights through photos, video and the written word.

After three days in Manhattan, Vanessa and I decided to venture out of our NYC comfort zone and over to Brooklyn. It proved to be a delicious trip, with a few quality retail finds, and a whole shit ton of hipsters.

A trip to Williamsburg seemed only right, as we were told by multiple friends that it was a cool place to wander, with fun shopping and restaurants.

Right off the bat, we got a nice view of the city that we had just departed ...

From there, we strolled around, ducking in an out of shops, and taking photos of signage:

My big retail find was Brooklyn Industries, where I bought a graphic tee with a 3-D Aslan on it. When I wear it, people like to ask me "Is that really a 3-D image?" to which I reply "I hope so, but I've never tested it out."

I also purchased a messenger bag online when I got home, because I couldn't stop thinking about it, and just had to have it. So yeah, check out the Brooklyn Industries website.

After dropping a bit of dough, I felt energized to be bold and start photographing all the hipsters that were passing us by. This is probably my best shot ...

Crazy, right? Right.

Vanessa and I had some delicious sushi for lunch, before stopping for some great organic sorbet, effectively crossing 'Ice cream on hot days' from my SFL. The patio out front of the ice cream place also served as a great location to take photos of hipsters walking by. Vanessa was so excited to get two in this photo!

After exhausting all Williamsburg had to offer (to be honest, it only took a couple hours), we had a choice to make.

"What do you want to do now?" "Well, it is 40 degrees and super humid." "Want to walk across a bridge?" "Yeah, let's do that."

It was a sweaty affair, to say the least, but I regret nothing about our decision to walk across the Brooklyn Bridge to get back to Manhattan. I even sang a little song about the experience, while living it ...

The experience also resulted in hilarious quotes like "I think I know you well enough to tell you where I'm sweating out of ..."

My biggest regret is that after our sweat-drenched walk across the Brooklyn Bridge, I decided it was an ideal time to ch-check out Century 21 for the first time. That place is like Winners on crack, and filled wall-to-wall with tourists and bargain hunters you literally have to wade through. Within five minutes in there I was having suicidal thoughts. Vanessa managed to find some jeans though!

Would I recommend Williamsburg to the average NYC tourist? If you have an extra day and feel like getting away from the hustle and bustle of Manhattan, yes. If you feel the need to be hip and indie, yes. If you enjoy walking across bridges, and feeling sweat drip in places you didn't know existed, yes.

NYC11: High Line Park

One of the highlights of NYC11 was a lovely afternoon stroll through High Line Park, an eye-opening discovery neither of us had heard of until my friend Keren told me it was her favourite spot in the city.

According to Wiki, the High Line is a linear park built on a one-and-a-half mile section of the former elevated freight railroad, which runs along the lower west side of Manhattan. It's been redesigned and planted as an aerial greenway, which runs from the Meatpacking District through Chelsea, to the West Side Yard.

It was a beautifully sunny day as we took in the green space against the city and industrial backdrops of Manhattan. Packed with other pedestrians, it was quite the popular attraction, and yet still felt like a gem tucked away from the main hussle and bustle of the city.

If you've got a spare hour next time your in NYC, I highly recommend you take a little breather at this park. Vanessa even called it her favourite attraction of the trip. Greenery meets the urban city in a fantastic fusion, and when the sun is shining you just can't beat it.

(Not to mention, at the end of the park, we found a party of food trucks underneath!)

Rachel McAdams in Marchesa

Our Canadian beauty kept her hair and makeup simple, and combined the silver dress with Christian Louboutin heels and jewels by Jacqueline Nerguizian.

NYC11: Things We Ate

In August 2011 Chris and Vanessa traveled to New York City for a five-day friendship retreat. This week they share highlights through photos, video and the written word.

Like any Chris-and-Vanessa getaway, we spent half our time eating, and the other half talking about eating while visiting other NYC attractions (as you may have noticed in our video blogs).

One of the things I really came to appreciate about NYC was the ease at which I could purchase, and subsequently eat, a large slice of pizza for a mere $1.50. It was, in fact, the first thing I ate when we arrived, and became a nice midnight snack as well. While Toronto's got pretty good street meat distribution, I think we really need to make this curbside pizza equally available.

Here are a few other food highlights, purchased on and off the street ...

Porter cookies
I thought I took enough cookies from the Porter lounge in Toronto to last me the entirety of the trip. I think I came up a day or so short in the end.

Magnolia's Banana Pudding
Unlike our last trip to New York, when we foolishly bought mediocre cupcakes and banana pudding, this time Vanessa and I knew better. We took photos of the cupcakes, but prioritized the most delicious of banana puddings, which we devoured within about 10 minutes. I don't think I even knew what banana pudding was until our first visit to NYC, and now it's something I dream about. Well done, Magnolia. Well done.

This weird pretzel hot dog thing
After our first visit to the NBC store, we took a stroll through the underground shopping area of 30 Rock. In one storefront window, I noticed fresh pretzels being prepared. Upon further inspection, I discovered some of said pretzel dough was also being wrapped around hot dogs. "Should I eat one of these?" I asked myself, and Vanessa. "Well, it would help me cross 'Do something spontaneous' off my Summer Fun List -- I'm going to do it!"

In I marched to get my pretzel dog, and though the cashier tried to tempt me with a deal to get two, I decided it best to taste test just one. Pretty good decision -- while the hot dog purchase was spontaneous, and not the worst thing I've ever eaten, I also wouldn't rush back to get another.

I do look like I'm having a pretty romantic time with it in that photo though, right?

Hot nuts!
After our last trip to NYC, I felt it was a real missed opportunity that I didn't purchase, and subsequently eat, any hot nuts that were sold on the street. I didn't let that happen this trip. Oh no. I bought those hot nuts, and ate the shit out of them. They were tasty.

Ben & Jerry's Late Night Snack
Throughout the trip Vanessa and I noticed Ben & Jerry's latest flavour Late Night Snack at a number of random convenience stores. Inspired by Late Night With Jimmy Fallon, the flavour involves vanilla ice cream, fudge covered potato chip clusters & a salty caramel swirl. Obviously, the potato chips made it a must-try for me before I left the city.

Only problem: the night before we were to leave, we hunted every convenience store in the vicinity of our hotel, and came up empty-handed! Seriously, it was like 1 a.m. and we were wandering the streets of New York looking for Late Night Snack. The next day, we did something similar, and eventually found it at the Ben & Jerry's in Macy's. Phew! I could leave NYC with the satisfaction of knowing I finally tried this delicious treat.

Mesa
We classed it up to have brunch at Mesa, one of Bobby Flay's restaurants. The brunch started with some friggin' delicious jalapeno biscuits, which I could've had as my whole brunch if they kept 'em coming. Oh man, so good.

Additionally I ordered spicy scrambled eggs, which came with apricot mustard glazed ham. And because I just coudn't help myself, I also ordered spicy mango-glazed bacon. I regret nothing -- these were all great decisions!

Bennys Burritos
Mayhaps my favourite food spot of the entire trip. Recommended by Renee, this hopping Greenwhich Village Mexican restaurants was packed, and for good reason. Complementary chips and salsa, reasonably priced beer and one helluva burrito had me proclaiming "I love New York!" at least 12 times.

Melt Shop Grilled Cheese
Our last meal in NYC, Vanessa and I tried the Melt Shop, a walk-up counter featuring sandwiches and grilled cheese, which appeared as a popular lunchtime spot for local workers. I got the smoked turkey ruben, with a side of 'shop tots' -- a.ka. tater tots. It was a nice treat to send us on our way!

Kelly Clarkson: I'll Be Home For Christmas

The fah-lawless version of the holiday classic effectively combines two of the greatest things ever: Kelly Clarkson and Christmas.

You can download the tune now from iTunes, with more new recordings from Ms. Clarkson expected from the online retailer at the end of December.

"The band and I recorded different versions of new and old "Kelly Clarkson" songs for a special ITunes package. It was a lot of fun! We also put a Christmas song on there as well. I can't wait to make a Christmas album. It was such a tease :)" Kelly tweeted last month.

NYC11: Just chillin' on the Met steps

NYC11: Marie's Crisis

Upon Diana's recommendation, after Benny's Burritos one night, we headed to Marie's Crisis for a gay old time.

The small ground-level piano bar specializes in show tunes, and as Vanessa and I learned, draws quite the crowd of regulars! It was entertaining, and really quite fascinating, to watch as gays of all ages (and one super impressive female senior citizen) crowded around the piano, and sang right along to songs of Broadway shows past that I've only ever heard of.

Diana, who had previously been to Marie's Crisis with a local friend, told me a lot of the regulars actually work in NYC theatre. Which explains why even those who look barely old enough to drink by U.S. standards were belting out the tunes like they were born to do it.

Vanessa and I perched ourselves on bar stools and mostly observed. It's not that we didn't want to join in the sing along. It's that we didn't actually know these tunes! And we love Broadway shows! We were just waiting to belt out some Rent or Phantom or Joseph.

But that opportunity never came. Instead we sat and joined in the most repetitive points of the songs that were being enthusiastically performed by the rest of the bar patrons. I left wondering whether Toronto has anything that compares, and if not, what it would take to get something of similar calibre up and running.

Kristen Wiig for Paper December/January 2012

After a banner year, funny woman Kristen Wiig takes the December/January 2012 cover of Paper magazine.

The SNL star tells the mag that despite all the attention Bridesmaids got this year, women have always been funny!

"It's unfortunate that this is only now being talked about, because women have been present in comedy for so long. There have been tons of movies with lots of women in them before Bridesmaids. It's just a confusing thing to me. But you know, if more movies are getting green-lit, and writers are getting a chance because of this movie, I couldn't be happier. That's such a great thing, because the fact that they weren't is kind of awful."

Friend and Bridesmaids costar Maya Rudolph also talks to the mag about her relationship with Wiig, which reminds me of me and my bumheart Renee.

When the two are together, their "sense of humor can get weird -- and maybe also mildly annoying to others," Rudolph says. While working together on the forthcoming film Friends with Kids, "Our hair woman there later told us, 'I miss being there and hearing your and Kristen's songs.' And we were both like, 'What songs?' and she said, 'Whenever you talk about stuff you start singing.' We weren't even really that aware that we did that."

I love it!

NYC11: NBC Studio Tour

One of our first stops when we arrived in NYC was the NBC Store. Vanessa and I love it there because they sell t-shirts upon t-shirts with our favourite NBC sitcom catch phrases on them. After our first 45 minute visit, we both bought Queen of Jordan t-shirts. If you don't know that reference, you should feel ashamed. HAHYM!

We tried at this time to also take the NBC Studio Tour, but were told it was all sold out for the day. Slightly discouraged, we decided to look on the bright side -- by coming back in a few days for the tour, we would have another opportunity to shop around the NBC store.

And so we did. While we didn't make anymore big purchases on our second trip to 30 Rock, we did finally make it past security to ch-check out a few real life TV studios.

The tour started off in a small theatre, where we were treated to a five minute history lesson of the NBC story, followed by 10 minutes of NBC advertising. Seriously, it was montage upon montage of NBC shows, and NBC subsidiary shows. So transparent, it wasn't even trying to come off as entertainment. Just blatant advertising. Even though I was fully aware we had just paid to go on an a tour of NBC, I felt my intelligence being insulted.

From there we moved on to the actual tour, which I would describe as kind of cool, but not all that eye-opening.

Our first stop was the Late Night With Jimmy Fallon set, where a "strange but true fact" our NBC page revealed to us was that "The set is smaller in real life than it looks on TV." Oh boy -- you don't say!

From there, we moved on to the set of Football Night in America. I was thoroughly uninterested in this set, until our page revealed it was previously the set of one of my favourite shows ever The Rosie O'Donnell Show. Oh how I wish I had been there 10 years earlier when that show was still on. Standing so close to where John McD and the McDLTs used to play! Vanessa particularly enjoyed that this studio also hosted the first Jeopardy set. She is a Jeopardy whiz of Andrea Zuckerman proportions.

Next up, they let us look at the SNL studio from behind glass, while our pages explained to us that it's nearly impossible to get tickets to SNL. It was kind of cool to see, but I felt a little jipped having to look at an empty set through glass. I did enjoy our pages' repeated jabs at Ashlee Simpson, however. "And just over there is where they swept her career off the floor," one cracked.

We did get some legit trivia at this point in the tour, when we were taken into a fake SNL makeup room, complete with a plaster cast of Bill Hader's head. Our page told us that every cast member and host has to get such a cast created, so the makeup department can prepare any prosthetics without the actor in the actual room. Over the show's history, we learned, Alec Baldwin has had the most casts made, because of his fluctuating weight. The only hosts not to have casts made were Betty White and Taylor Lautner, who refused because he's claustrophobic. Tina Fey also never had a cast made, because she's too awesome.

From there, we were taken into a fake studio where two lucky members of our tour group got to read a fake newscast in front of a green screen. It was thrilling.

Overall, I found the tour kind of meh in terms of value. The trivia was mediocre, and 30 Rock, as it turns out, only currently holds the sets of a few popular shows. 30 Rock the show, meanwhile, shoots outside of the city.

My advice? Go to NBC for the tshirts, and if you have time, take the tour.

NYC11: DanRad 'Succeeds' at Broadway

If there was ever any doubt that Harry Potter and a Night Court star could make Broadway magic together, I'm here to tell you it's more than possible -- it's happening right now!

How To Succeed In Business Without Really Trying, playing at Broadway's Al Hirschfeld Theatre, sees Daniel Radcliffe star as J. Pierrepont Finch, a window-washer who's got more ambition to climb the corporate ladder than skill to back up his quick ascension.

Finch uses a book that bares the name of the show to learn how to make it to the top. That involves wrapping the company's president J.B. Biggley, played by John Laroquette, around his finger, and dodging office rival Bud Frump, played by Christopher J. Hanke.

To answer what I've discovered is most people's first question: Yes, Daniel Radcliffe can sing. Is it his greatest strength in this role? Not necessarily. But he pulls it off, and makes up for whatever he lacks in the vocal department with sheer charisma.

He puts on his best American accent (again I would say, not necessarily his strong suit), to play the scrappy up-and-comer. Perhaps aided by his stature, Radcliffe's character's chase for his dreams feels like a real underdog story you want to root for, despite the fact that he has no reason to justify career promotion. (Hence the name, I suppose).

That said, I could watch Daniel Radcliffe dance for days. His commitment to proving himself on Broadway becomes clear as he nimbly bounds about the stage, at times literally tossing himself around.

The production's show-stopping, adrenaline-pumping, spirit-heightening performance comes pre-intermission when Finch strategically convinces Biggley they have a great deal in common, effectively forming a valuable bond with the big boss man. The duo break out into a comedic yet skillful routine that is quite simply non-stop action, and at one point has Radcliffe gliding through the air to complete an impecabbly-choreographed football play.

Laroquette's Tony-winning turn shows two sides to his character: the big boss man you want to win over, and the secretly goofy guy who's more into knitting than you'd ever guess.

Hanke does a great job as Biggley's whiny, entitled office rival, providing a character that really pops off the stage. The production's romantic subplot, however, could be better written and integrated into the show. While Finch's sudden career movement sees him ignoring potential love interest Rosemary (played efficiently by Rose Hemingway), I'm not sure I cared all that much whether they ended up together. Do they really love each other? Or are they just fulfilling some sort of Broadway-play quota for romance?

The real relationship of interest is that of Finch and Biggsley, as the former attempts to keep the wool pulled over the latter's eyes, grasping at straws as the new VP of advertising. The duo has chemistry to spare, making for a delightful odd couple through Finch's rise and (almost?) fall in corporate America.

DanRad's in the show until January, when Nick Jonas takes over the role. While the production will surely remain cool, clean and mod in look and feel, I wonder how it will change without Radcliffe's bountiful energy.

Who knew a boy wizard would be such a Broadway safe-bet?
